Construction work at the Theatre Royal has begun -
BIS Willich Industrial Services were on site in December to remove all asbestos from the site in preparation for the main contract work.
Clancy Construction have been on site since January 4th and substantial progress has been made.
In the course of clearing the site a number of 18th century features were uncovered under the old Civil Defence Room. These have been the subject of reports by the site archaeologist, Orla Scully and advice has been sought from the relevant sections of the Department of the Environment as to how they will be resolved. It is not clear at this point whether these discoveries will be a cause for delay in the finish date for the project but every effort is being made to expedite a decision.
