OVER THE RAINBOW: THE JUDY GARLAND STORY
Date: 10th November
The Great Singalong Songbook team wow us with another gorgeous treat in their fantastic Sunday afternoon concert series, this time with a tribute, in song and story, to the amazing musical and movie icon, Judy Garland.
With Judy, the movie, and Renee Zellweger in the title role, (due for release 4th October next), public interest in the star has never been higher.
From the moment, two and a half-year-old Frances Gumm emerged from a hat box on stage and did a sensational impersonation of Al Jolson, the world was captivated. The Gumm Family were entertainers and Ethel Gumm was determined that her youngest daughter was going to be a star. Her name was changed from Frances Gumm to Judy Garland and when MGM cast her as Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz” she became known and loved all around the world.
Spellbound audiences watched as child-star Judy grew up on the screen and by 1955, she was the highest paid entertainer in the world.
Over the Rainbow tells the enthralling story of Judy Garland’s life and the heartbreak that lay behind those carefree songs and dance sequences.
Old videos, photos combined with Judy’s amazing life story, ensures that this is an afternoon definitely not to be missed. And the song lyrics will be projected too so the audience are guaranteed to be singing along!
Starring Linda Kenny, Damian Smith, actor Alf McCarthy, and our Great Singalong Songbook band (MD Alan Carney).
Written and directed by Cathal MacCabe.
Delicious cakes and tea/coffee on sale in the café before the show and during the interval.
A Sunday afternoon of singing you simply cannot afford to miss!
