UNFORGETTABLE: THE NAT KING COLE STORY
Date: 15th September
The Great Singalong Songbook presents
Unforgettable: the Nat King Cole Story
From his birth in a black ghetto in Montgomery, Alabama, Nat Cole had to fight racial prejudice. Although he was thrilling audiences all across the United States with his brilliant piano playing and his smooth, satin voice, he had to use the “coloureds only” facilities and frequently could not stay in the hotels in which he was performing.
But that golden voice made him a star! A series of hit records, Rambling Rose, Unforgettable, Mona Lisa, Too Young and Nature Boy brought his fame all around the world and he became a beacon of hope for dozens of other black artistes. He was also the first black performer to host his own show on coast-to-coast television.
Join our Great Singalong Songbook team as they bring you Unforgettable, the thrilling story of Nat “King” Cole’s fight against bigotry, and brings you a score and more of his best-loved singalong songs.
Starring Damian Smith, Linda Kenny, Alf McCarthy as Grand Master of Ceremonies, and our Great Singalong Songbook band (Alan Carney MD). Written and Directed by Cathal MacCabe.
Delicious cakes and tea/coffee on sale in the café before the show and during the interval.
A Sunday afternoon of singing you simply cannot afford to miss!
